So we were out for a family meal recently and it struck me that at least 75% of the people eating in there were families – like us.
So I reckon there must have been about 20 guys in there that were clearly Dads – like me.
….well they looked like I did a few years ago.
They were overweight.
Most of their weight was being stored around their gut.
…and guess what?
They were all eating chips.
Now, it was an American style burger joint that we had gone to and so chips were a feature on about 90% of the dishes.
But
I didn’t have chips.
I had chicken fajitas…..and they were amazing.
This isn’t some righteous post though about how well I eat compared to everyone else. It’s far from being that.
The point that I want to make though is that the little decisions that we make on a daily basis regarding how we eat, how we drink, whether we exercise and how we talk to ourselves add up to exactly how you look in the mirror and how you feel about yourself.
RESULTS DO NOT LIE!
If you’re obese then this is as a direct result of the way that you have been living your life for the last few months and years.
(other than medical conditions and medication whereby there is little control over)
If you wake up each morning and feel jaded, foggy headed and just want to hit snooze then this is most likely a direct result of the time you went to bed and the stuff that you were eating and drinking the day before.
If you get out of the shower, look in the mirror and feel fat then this is most likely as a result of the decisions you have made in the past.
If you get to 3pm – 4pm each day at work and feel tired and have low energy then this is most likely a direct result of the things you have been eating and drinking that day.
YOU’RE IN CONTROL!
You live and die by the decisions that YOU make.
The moment you start making better decisions is the moment that your life starts to improve.
Too many of us blokes though accept mediocrity and are happy (may be not happy – more comfortable and content) with the way they feel and the way they look.
Here’s the reason: (my theory anyway)
Most guys your age are in the same position.
Most guys over 35 in the UK are overweight / obese.
Most guys over 35 with kids and full time jobs find it hard to find time to exercise.
Most guys over 35 will eat chips in a burger restaurant (that’s quite comforting for most)
Most guys over 35 will drink heavily at the weekend (and sometimes during the week).
Most guys will take comfort in being like most guys.
Let me ask you this.
If you went into a healthy eating restaurant and 90% of the Dads in there were eating healthy meals. No one was drinking beer. Would you be more comfortable in ordering something healthy yourself or would you request that they bring the chips out?
I want to encourage you to forget what everyone else is doing.
If you feel that you should be getting healthy, dropping pounds, gaining more energy, feeling less lethargic, connecting with your kids again and importantly being around in the future to see them grow up then
LEAD!
BREAK AWAY!
Don’t accept mediocrity.
Don’t accept the norm.
Don’t be like everyone else.
Do this for you.
Get Fit.
Get Healthy.
You are here to lead and inspire. To be a positive influence and role model on those that look up to you – whether that’s your kids, your spouse, your friends, your family or your work colleagues.
That starts with YOU taking care of yourself.
Not half heartedly either.
I mean you need to make a firm commitment to sort yourself out.
But I’ve Tried In The Past And Failed
I get it.
I used to say exactly the same.
There’s so much crap out there. FAD diets and gym memberships that over promise and under deliver.
In my experience, you will get the best results by breaking your goals up into 6-12 week cycles.
- Make a goal.
- Write down your reasons WHY it’s so important.
- Remind yourself of this every single day.
- Then stick to a tried and tested plan that will help you to achieve your goal.
Make 2016 the year that you finally nail this.
