Yes it is.
But that’s not really the real question that we should be asking right here.
Something more appropriate is
“Are you prepared to pay the price of getting a six pack over 35?”
So many of would answer YES to this without truly understanding what the ‘price’ is.
Deep down we know its achievable. Take a look at the magazine guys and the movie stars:
- Daniel Craig
- Hugh Jackman
- Mark Whalberg
Those boys give us over 35s hope that we can also do this.
Is it hope though?
…or is it pressure?
Do we then start to feel inadequate by not having the body that they have?
Let’s assume we do feel under pressure.
…and let’s then assume that the pressure is enough for us to then take some kind of necessary action in order to rectify the situation. – we join a gym, we hire a Personal Trainer, we go on a diet.
Cool. Now all we have to do is….
Visualise the six pack
Visualise the six pack
Visualise the six pack
4 weeks later. Not a lot has changed.
Damn it!
Gets pretty tough now to stay motivated.
Wait a minute.
I remember reading in Men’s Health that Hugh Jackman’s workout routine was in there that he used to get in shape for Wolverine. Brilliant. I’ll follow that.
You dig out the online version and boom – there it is. Legs, Back, Chest, Abs – its all there.
Visualise the six pack
Visualise the six pack
Visualise the six pack
4 weeks later and not a lot has changed.
WTF???
If it worked for Hugh why doesn’t it work for us?
If we felt inadequate before, now we feel like a complete failure as well.
What’s the secret to this?
Hugh must know a secret.
I bet he uses a special whey protein.
Or I bet he uses some crazy T5 fat burners.
….or may be both.
Let’s get some of them.
I’ve also read that creatine and BCAAs can help to get your ripped, so I’ll have some of them as well.
4 weeks later.
Not a lot has changed – other than being over £100 out of pocket having bought a load of muscle products.
12 weeks now has gone by since making that initial commitment.
Belief is now waning.
Motivation has dropped to an all time low.
Hey, we tried.
Never mind.
Wife still loves me for my cuddly bits.
Just gonna stop watching Bond and X-Men – they can keep their secret six packs.
That’s Been My Six Pack Journey In The Past
Since becoming a Transformation Coach and now specialising in helping men over 35 get in great shape, I’ve figured out that there are some basic principles that need to be followed.
The so called secret is just the consistent practice of the following:
- Drink lots of water
- Eat loads of protein
- Eat loads of quality veggies
- Exercise a lot – combining both heavy weights and high intensity cardio
- (one of the best exercises for a six pack is heavy squats!)
- Cut out sugar
- Cut out gluten
….and then be patient.
It takes time.
Which then brings us back to probably the most important part of this whole practice.
In fact without it, the above can’t and won’t happen.
You have to have a massive reason WHY you want to achieve the goal.
“it would just be nice to have a six pack” just ain’t gonna cut it I’m afraid.
Coming back to Hugh and Daniel, their big reason WHY would have something to do with playing their respective roles in their films and getting paid millions for it. Now that’s a pretty big reason WHY. – that would certainly help you to make the daily sacrifices required to achieve this ambitious goal.
Entering into a body building competition, knowing that you will be on stage and judged is another one.
…but for most of us, the reason WHY we want a six pack isn’t anywhere near big enough to match the sacrifice.
So my advice?
Lower your expectations.
Keep it realistic.
If you’re a 38″ waist at the minute then aim to get to a 32″ – 34″ waist. That will certainly be very noticeable. Clothes will start fitting much better and it will be considerably healthier as well.
Start there and see how you get on.
You never know. Once you’re achieved the initial goal your big reason WHY may materialise and then you can commit to the six pack mission.
