The number of extra calories you eat snacking at work will make you choke on your doughnut

It’s Tuesday morning and your colleague has just brought in homemade brownies. It would just be rude to say no.

The vending machine is right round the corner. Might as well treat yourself to a nice KitKat, you have been working hard – you deserve it.

Your boss hands out some chocolate digestives – that will keep you going as you write up a painfully boring report.

Grazing on crisps, sweets and your colleague’s home made goodies whilst at your desk can quickly add up. According to a poll carried out by Dutch food brand Kallø, it can add up to an extra 100,000 calories a year. This figure equates to roughly an extra 50 days of food intake a year!

The average man will eat 135 biscuits, 90 slices of cake, 90 packets of sweets and 45 doughnuts a year at his desk. Anyone else feeling queasy?

Whether you snack due to boredom, temptation or as a little pick-me-up, you probably don’t need those extra 2,240 calories every week.

Although, we shouldn’t be fixating on calories, this information clearly shows the importance of cutting out on the extra food we consume at work because more often than not, your snacks are not all that nutritious and could even be counter productive – leaving you feeling sluggish and tired.
