Why Successful Guys Neglect Exercise

You know you should.

You just know deep down inside you that you really should be doing something.

It can be a bit uncomfortable when stepping out the shower and seeing that bulging waistline……but when you’re trying to ‘make it big’ in the World, this is one of the prices that has to be paid right?

This is how I used to justify it anyway.

It was either / or.

My career or my health – I couldn’t focus on both and expect great results in both.

How delusional is that?

If you went out and bought a Bentley, would you then neglect it?

or would you look after it? – invest in it? fuel it properly with quality petrol, make sure it’s serviced on time? treated with care. Then when it’s running nice and smoothly and has just been waxed and valeted you take it out for a drive on a warm summer’s day. How much joy and pride would you get out of that drive?

Why would you treat your body any different?

Fuel it properly – good quality nutritious foods and plenty of water.

Plenty of regular exercise – utilising both weights and cardio

Then on that warm summer’s day (may be whilst on holiday) you get to enjoy taking your shirt off and walking around with a killer bod.

Your abs are visible, your chest bigger and people appreciate the hard work and effort that has gone into getting into great shape.

Your wife falls right back in love with you again and can’t keep her hands off you!

More energy.

More focus.

Increased productivity.

Feeling happy and confident in all areas.

I talk from experience.

Rather than this be an either / or scenario, there are ways that you can continue to drive your career forward whilst investing in your own health and fitness.

When I did this – invested in my own health and fitness, my mind became much clearer. I was able to get more done at work in less time. So my productivity soared which meant I was able to then find the time to invest back in my key relationships with my wife and kids.

I have never been in better shape. Not even when I was 18/19 years old!! My body fat % is right down to those crazy levels.

Here’s the thing. If I hadn’t have caught this when I did. If I had just kept justifying to myself that I didn’t need / want to get in shape and that the success of my career was the most important thing for me to do then this is what would have happened:

  • Heart attack
  • Diabetes
  • Divorce
  • See kids every other weekend
  • Depression

Any or all of the above.

I wish someone could have just made me the guarantee that

“If you look after your body and get in great shape, your key relationships, your business, your mindset and your happiness and the speed that you achieve your goals will all improve exponentially”

I would have started a lot earlier!

The biggest problem though is knowing where to start.

Joining a gym (for most) is not the answer.

Hiring a regular gym PT (for most) is not the answer.

Just starting a new diet (for most) is not the answer.

Hiring someone that can relate to you and the regular daily challenges that you face is worth exploring though. Someone that has been there – walked in your shoes.

Someone that can put a simple, time efficient plan in place and offer a workable accountability structure to achieve fast yet long lasting results.

That’s the checklist that I would have in place when searching. Try and find someone as closely aligned to that as possible.

You’ll know when you find them.

oh…and be prepared to pay for it as well.

After all it’s a price worth paying.
