Your office job may be shaving years off your life

Working long hours sat at a computer screen can have a negative impact on your health and cause you to develop some bad habits. Take these five tips as an opportunity to swap some of your current work habits for ones that will keep you happy and healthy.

1. Stretch
Just leaning back on your chair and stretching out your arms and spine is enough to avoid locking joints and stiffness.

2. Look away from the screen
Spending a lot of time staring at your computer screen can damage your eye health. Try to regularly spend a few minutes looking out the window or adjusting your gaze on something else to allow your eyes to refocus.

3. Cut back on the snacks
It can be ever so easy to snack mindlessly on things like peanuts and M&M’s, which can easily lead to huge intakes of calories in one go. Try to replace these snacks with cups of tea or nutritious, low-calorie foods such as celery.

4. Choose the stairs
Always take the stairs over the elevator – this may be the only chance you get to exercise for the day, so make the most of it!

5. Take calls on the move
If your job involves answering calls on your mobile, walk whilst you talk. There is no reason for you to be glued to your desk if you don’t have to be.
